The Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC)
Although a college degree helps an individual receive the knowledge necessary to qualify for a particular career, these degrees are expensive and time-consuming to acquire. And if there are no jobs available in the marketplace, the value of the degree is diminished further.
What if your education and training could be certified in specific areas where employment is plentiful? That's the real value in certification from the Manufacturing Skills Standards Council (MSSC).
MSSC is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that provides certification program courses for a variety of increasingly needed positions. Certification can be achieved to become:
- Certified Forklift Technicians (CFT)
- Certified Production Technicians (CPT)
- Certified Logistics Technicians (CLT)
MSSC is an industry-led training, assessment and certification system that is focused on the core skills and knowledge required by the country's front-line production and material handling workers. This system allows both entry-level and current employees the opportunity to “prove” they have the training and education necessary based on industry and federally endorsed standards.
D.C. Jaeger Corporation offers MSSC Certification programs that raise the level of performance of production workers. This is of value to both individuals in search of higher-wage positions and employers who are looking for quality employees to add to their workforce.
Certified Forklift Technician (CFT)
This program recognizes individuals who demonstrate the core competencies necessary for repair and maintenance of forklift vehicles. The CFT credential provides a pathway into the growing materials handling industry. The CFT prepares individuals with the knowledge to repair and maintain technical and engineering systems common to most forklift vehicles.
Certification helps assure individuals are prepared to step into higher paying jobs, and employers are building a workforce that is increasingly skilled. This is a powerful combination in improving productivity and competitiveness.
Certified Production Technician (CPT)
This program recognizes individuals who have mastered core competencies of manufacturing production at the front-line. Successful completion and certification are valuable in achieving entry-level through front-line supervisory positions.
The CPT is based on the successful completion of five certificate modules:
- Quality and Measurement Practices
- Manufacturing Processes and Production
- Maintenance Awareness
- Green Production
Program participants are required to successfully complete the first four modules, as the Green Production module is not currently required for full CPT certification.
Certified Logistics Technician (CLT)
The CLT recognizes, through certification, individuals who demonstrate they have mastered the core competencies of material handling at the front-line, by successfully completing certification assessments.
There are two parts to the CLT program:
- The Foundation Level Certified Logistics Associate (CLA) Certificate
- The Mid-level Technical CLT Certification
Foundational Level CLA Course
This course provides students with basic, broad knowledge needed to understand supply chain and related core competencies. A PDF textbook and a series of E-learning modules are used as learning materials.
- The Global Supply Chain
- The Logistics Environment
- Safe Operation of Equipment
- Material Handling Equipment
- Quality Control
- Workplace communication
- Teamwork and problem solving
- Computer Use
This course will take approximately 35 hours to complete and CLA must be achieved prior to sitting for the CLT.
Mid-Level Technical CLT Course
This course is designed to provide students with the mid-level technical knowledge needed for a better understanding of supply chain logistics and related subjects.
- Product Receiving
- Product Storage
- Order Processing
- Packaging and Shipping
- Inventory Control
- Safe Handling of Hazardous Materials
- Evaluation of Transportation Modes
- Dispatch and Tracking Operations.
The course can be completed in about 35 hours.
MSSC regulations require that CLT and CPT Certifications be recertified every five years.
Accredited Under ISO Standards
MSSC is accredited by the International Accreditation Service (IAS), which is recognized as a Multilateral Recognition Arrangement Signatory by the Pacific Accreditation Cooperation for accreditation to ISO 17024.
This makes MSSC the only national certification body accredited under this globally respected international standard for both manufacturing and logistics.
The accreditation under ISO Standard 17024 has been a major boost to MSSC's ability to serve the closely-linked manufacturing and logistics industries.
